This was a really simple living room update with flowers, but it made such a difference to how the space feels. Sometimes all a room needs is a small shift to make it feel fresh again, and this time it came down to something really simple: a bunch of pretty flowers.
The Starting Point
The room felt comfortable but I wanted to add a focal point. Everything worked, but nothing really stood out or drew your eye in. I didn’t want to add more “stuff” for thw sake of it, so just a quick restyle on what I already had, and adding in these lovely gifted flowers, but a colourful house plant could be just as effective.

Adding Flowers
This was the main and only real change. Placing a styled bouquet on to the coffee table instantly brought the space to life.
It created:
- Soft colour through the pinks and greens
- Height and shape to the centre of the room
- A more relaxed, lived-in feel
I kept the arrangement loose and slightly undone so it didn’t feel overly styled or formal. There’s also a design decision behind this. Flowers are such a simple way to introduce biophilic elements into your home — bringing in natural forms, colour variation, and a subtle sense of movement.
Even a small touch of nature can make a space feel calmer, softer, and more inviting
Styling with a gift
Rather than buying anything new, I used pieces I already had and moved things around a little. On the coffee table, I layered:
- A small stack of books for height and interest
- A natural candle for warmth and scent
- The flowers as the focal point
- Art (by Kitty Finegan – you’re welcome !)
The cushions adda touch of contrast with the sofa rather than competing with it. This made everything feel more cohesive without adding clutter with extra ‘things’.
Balancing Colour and Light
The teal sofas already brings quite a strong hue into the room, so the flowers and accessories just needed to support it. Keeping the floral palette soft and natural helped everything feel balanced. I like to keep the overall look light and fresh, while still keeping everything feeling natural.
Why Flowers Work So Well
Flowers soften a space. They introduce organic shapes and a sense of movement that makes a room feel more comfortable and less ‘staged’. This is why even a small nod to biophilic design can have a noticeable impact. You don’t need a full redesign — just a simple, natural element can completely change how a space feels. I think there is too much pressure to spend money – I hope this little change has inspired you, if you’re looking around your own room wondering what to change.
A simple change, but it does work
It’s a good reminder that you don’t always need to buy something new or make major changes to refresh a space. Sometimes it’s just about styling what you have in a slightly different way — and adding something as simple as fresh flowers or a plant.

One simple addition
Before a new home purchase, try moving things around, restyling surfaces, or adding something temporary like flowers. You might be surprised how much you can change the feel of a space with what you already own.
If you’re not sure where to start with your own space, this is exactly the kind of thing I can help out with – simple, realistic updates that make a room feel more put together without starting from scratch. Whether it’s restyling what you already have or figuring out what’s missing, sometimes a fresh pair of eyes makes all the difference. You can find more about my interior styling services here.
