Pantone Hotel – Colour Central

Pantone Hotel Chairs

How could you not be intrigued by a Pantone Hotel if you love colour ? If you also love good chocolate, then Brussels is probably a good place to be.

Luckily, Andy ( my lovely man ) has been in Belgium, rehearsing for Glastonbury Festival , so I finally got to do a Pantone post as he dutifully went and took some pictures for me … and you !

Shades of Red Pantone Hotel-1

A white canvas gives a nice clean feel – and the saturated colourful pops add warmth and a heart.

There are strong and more delicate palettes depending on which room you stay in. Which colour would you like to stay in?

The Hotel itself is very central so you are close to lots of restaurants and also the train station. From what I can see, it is quite good value too … a very good excuse for a visit with the family. We would like to see Mini Europe which isn’t far away.

I’m a total Pantone obsessive and use my colour wheel all the time. It felt like Christmas being sent these images by Andy. The one thing I forgot to ask him to but me some of their mugs. Doh ! I really will have to go soon …

Have you stayed here at the Pantone Hotel or been to Brussels before ? Any recommendations for places to eat or see, would be fab. Please leave me a comment under this post ..

Achica Cheeky Peek In My Living Room

Lamp from AchicaI do love a peep in to peoples homes – all the interesting little nooks and spend much of time looking on Pinterest for inspiration. Being as I’ve had a little change around here in the living room, I thought maybe you’d like to see a colourful corner of mine ?

Last week I painted a few mini crates to display some of our garden perennials to work nicely with the colour wheel print above and my new cushion and chrome and white lamp sent over by the lovely folk at from Achica. The lamp is perfect for evening sewing and reading.  It’s nice to have a lamp that will work well anywhere – I will probably use it at my sewing table too.

The cushion is bold and refreshing and perfect for Summer. Citrus is in this season so a fruity print cushion is my contribution … :)

Citrus Cushion Print - Achica

Achica ( if you aren’t already aware ) is a luxury lifestyle online store offering exclusive, daily promotions on lots of home interiors and fashion accessories. Worth a look if you like discounted designer goodies.

DIY Window Boxes-1 DIY Window Boxes & Fabric

Do you like the crates ? I bought some sample pots and it took no time at all to paint them. Inside I popped in some jam jars. They work well as window boxes too if you want to dress a sill or too. Actually, I nice little teachers gift for end of term too ? Not long now ..

If you have any DIY tips for adding colour to your home or want to just say hello – leave me a comment under this post or tweet me @lucylovesyablog – would love to hear your thoughts.

Tea For Two With Extra Sprinkles

Cakemart DecsWhat do your kids say when you offer them a little tea party with not only my quaint cups and saucers filled with their favourite fruit juice … but also cake pops and cupcakes and extra sprinkles. No brainer. They said .. ” Yesssss Mum ” ..

PopsSprinkles

I’ve never made cake pops before although have been intrigued as to how you do. Actually, they were quite easy. I did have a book that came with the set so that helped. Funnily enough my girls were really happy to help out as much as possible ! The candy melts are meant to be microwaved but I did it over the hob with a saucepan and a bowl and turned out fine…. the fiddly bit was covering the sponge but we had fun with it.

Cupcakes

We also made some cupcakes that I have to say, were delicious. I’ve tried loads of times to ice cakes with a piping bag and quite frankly made a mess, but this time I used a one hand decorator and it was a doddle. The sprinkles added some lovely colour and a little bit of crunch. I love the bright polka dot cases – they go so well with the multi colour toppings.

Meincupcake spotted,my love for colour, recently, so sent me these delights to try out. I’ve had lots of fun on Instagram over the last few days sharing some pics. Have a look if you like. We also made doughnuts but they are in our bellies on the cutting room floor ;)

Cakemart Cake Pop

After our little ‘ do ” we wrapped up some of extra cake pops in cellophane packs that came with the kit and some striped wash tape and took them round to our neighbours. Here you can see the girls all ready to deliver them in front of our purple front door.  It’s a nice idea for wedding and kids favour bags. I will definitely be using them for future parties. Hopefully we will get more adventurous and make some of the amazing creations on offer in the book.

Cake Pops

Are you a dab hand at baking ? Or like me, keen but still a bit of a novice ? Any tips either way then leave me a comment. I’d love to hear from you …

My Retro Chair Covered in CLARKE & CLARKE Chico

Clarke & Clarke Chair 02

You know when you have an idea in your head of how you want something to look ? In this case, a retro style chair, bought a few years ago that needed a bit of colour loving, I felt. But nothing jumped out at me for a while. My all time favourite colour is turquoise so eventually and luckily Clarke & Clarke sent over some of their latest samples recently which led me to one of their latest prints – Chico.

Clarke & Clarke 2

The Chico design is from their Zanzibar collection, inspired by Spice Markets, full of bold geometric patterns embroidered on linen, teamed with rich jacquards and bold plains. The Aqua that I chose to use is one of several palettes that form this contemporary range – the others are charcoal, indigo, sunset and fuchsia.

Although I say contemporary, actually, I see this particular pattern as quite retro and ideal for the chair – that’s what I love about design – it’s all relative.

I made a little bright pink velvet cushion to match the flamingo print – and to finish the overall look. After that I sat down and drank that hot chocolate in my favourite Vera Wang at Wedgewood cup and saucer. :)

Clarke & Clarke Chair 3

Hope you like the new look chair ? What’s your favourite colour ? Let me know by leaving a comment or tweeting @lucylovesyablog. Would love to hear from you.

If you want to have a look at some more of their wonderful fabrics. You can find all of Clarke & Clarke’s stockists on the website – www.clarke-clarke.com.

Have a nice day …

The Whole of the Moon – Koko Kids Review

koko kids 2

As we have just had the eclipse ( didn’t see a thing as it was overcast but it definitely went all kind of dusky and still ) I thought it topical to show you Mae’s new wall sticker from Koko Kids.

I’ve come across lots of stickers over the last few years but this one is by far my favourite. It’s so detailed, being able to see all of the craters and ridges. Mae is over literally over the moon with it – excuse the bad pun …. :) The stars finish it off perfectly and add extra atmosphere.

Koko Kids 3

Gill, founder of interiors and gift store Koko Kids was introduced to me through a mutual friend, Jo, who loves their designs too. I’m so glad she did as we were looking for something interesting for Mae’s room and she loves astronomy – Gill kindly sent me the sticker to review.

Koko Kids do a very tasteful range of wall stickers with a retro, graphic twist, for nurseries right through to teens with everything in between. The good thing about their products is that they can be removed and re – applied and have are vinyl free which means they have no BPA or phthalates so ideal for kids rooms which is reassuring. They have all kind of designs such as butterflies, cherry blossom, deer, pop art and confetti – well worth checking out – here.

We painted Mae’s room ‘ Stone Blue ‘ by Farrow & Ball which has turned out even better than expected as I thought it might give a cold feel but it really hasn’t, it all works well together, I reckon. What do you think ?

Cosy Homes with Direct Stoves

invicta-seville-wood-burning-stoveIt’s so good to see a few cheery white snowdrops peeping through the soil here, but it’s still pretty freezing in our house, especially in the evenings and probably will be for a few months to come. I’m not complaining though as I love the cosy nights, looking at the flames and feeling the natural glow of a roaring fire whilst reading a good book or watching a favourite film.

We have an open fire and I also use a wood burner in my sewing room that was already here when we moved in, which actually heats much of the house and I love it – but if I had been able to choose – I think I would’ve gone for one with bold colour, like this pillar box red one. It’s an Invicta Cast Iron ‘ Seville ‘ Wood Burner from Direct Stoves. Combined with the vintage inspired design – it’s perfect for colour lovers.

Burners, I have found, are great for more compact areas, but also warm larger areas so well too, in fact, they do a good job of heating the whole house.

charnwood-c-five-almond-defra-approved-wood-burning-stove

The white wood and multi fuel Charnwood Burner from Direct Stove’s vast ranges is a great feature piece in a more contemporary style. Quite handy to be able to store some logs underneath it, taking up even less space.

I do love this double doored, Multi Fuelled Stove with cook top also made by Charnwood. It’s suitable for a medium to large room as it throws out lots of warmth as well as featuring a soapstone hot plate for cooking on – perfect for a cosy kitchen. Imagine a nice bowl of hearty soup warming after a long winters walk. Yes, please !

chanrwood-island-two-cook-top-stove

There’s a wonderful selection of electric, gas, wood and multi fuel stoves plus Range Cookers on the Direct Stoves website. What’s really great is that some of the stoves come in different colours too, as well as modern and classic styles  – spoilt for choice ! You can can find everything you need here  – www.directstoves.com

Have a nice day …

Beautiful Illustrated City Maps

London MapThe other day I was lucky enough to have a good close up look at some Jenni Sparks prints from the online art store Evermade. It’s great to be able to view artwork online, but there’s nothing like studying it in the flesh, if you know what I mean ?

I’ve written about my trips to Berlin and New York before and talk about lovely London a lot because I’m a city girl at heart. These truly intricate, hand drawn map prints by Jenni Sparks really took my breath away. The latest edition – Paris took six months in total to complete. There’s lots of research behind all of the illustrations with quirky pieces of information in each area and landmark places to visit. Berlin MapNew York Map

It must be such an enlightening experience getting to know the people who live locally and where they like to hang out, whilst designing each map. The time and love that Jenni has put in to each piece is clear to see. So hoping that Tokyo is next on her list !

What’s your favourite city in the world and why  ? Leave me a comment or tweet me @lucylovesyablog. Would love to know.

Colour Your Christmas

Xmas Bright LucyLovesYaI love Christmas. The shiny, razzle dazzle of it all and feel justified in doing a Festive post now as the lights are officially switched on in Oxford Street. With an abundance of traditional decorations and homeware to choose from online, I thought I’d seek out some slightly more cute, colourful and heaven scented 2014 items at varying prices.

1. The playfulness of this wreath from The Original Pop Up Shop is handade from Merino Wool. It would work against so many colours. It’s very tactile looking – beautiful !

2. A cheeky little retro style plaque from Selfridges. This one is by Gisela Graham.

3. I am a big Diptyque fan. Their candles last for ages and they smell divine. This one is scented with cinnamon and plum. I’d be very happy to find one of these in my stocking. It’s stocked at SPACE.NK.

4. In Festive colour with a bold chevron print. These gold and glamorous napkins are by Paperchase.

5. As Liberty London lives right in the middle of the capital, this London bus tree decoration represents them well. I love it, especially as it is the old fashioned design. Glittery too – Ooh !

6. You could make a statement with these Multi coloured crackers for the tree or against a white table cloth. You can also find these at Paperchase.

7. How could anyone not fall for this little woodland Hedgehog decoration. Uber cute. Found at StreetHub.

8. My heart skipped a beat when I first spotted these handmade fairground star lights. Made in Britain – they come in various colours. They’re not cheap but I would use them all year round. These are by Goodwin and Goodwin at Not on The HighStreet.

9. Every year when we make Mulled Wine, I remember the thing we forgot. Proper glasses.  John Lewis do a set of 4 thermally insulated ones in a soda glass shape.

10. Father Christmas in a glittered robe. As he should be ! A set of 6 that come in a gift box from one of my favourite online stores – Berry Red.

Hope you like my selection. I will be seeking and sharing more soon. :)
