Yvonne Coomber – An Artist Brimming with Inspiration

This is a bit of a funny but lovely story about an artist Yvonne Coomber who I think is brimming with inspiration.

A very interesting thing happened recently. When we had our trip to The Bedruthan Hotel, there were pieces of art hanging in the reception and halls for guests to admire and purchase.

There was one particular painter that I was drawn to and every time we passed them, I said to Andy and my girls ” I love these so much ” and I kind of lovingly bowed to them. They had a shimmer effect and were just dreamy.

Roll on a few months and guess what ? I receive an email from Yvonne Coomber the artist in question, telling me that she loves my blog. I can’t quite believe it ! Divine intervention ? I’d like to think so.

So, we decided to collaborate and show you some of her work that is now here on my walls.

Yvonne Coomber uses a mixture of paints  – oils, inks, glosses, glazes and fine glitter with paintbrushes, rags, her fingers and palette knives to achieve the overall finished piece. Working outside on every single project, whether it’s raining or snowing and everything in between also inspires each painting and dictates how the paint falls.

Born in Ireland, Yvonne was brought up on a farm and went on to travel the world, then studying in Brighton. She now has four children with husband and fellow artist Mike Boyer and lives in now in Devon where she produces her work.

I love the combination of the vibrant flowers, drenched in colour with the the light sky in this ‘ My Paradise ‘ print. We have put it up where the sun hits it mid morning and it’s so captivating. Placing art in the right position is so important and I think about it for a while nowadays before choosing the right home for any painting.

When I first opened this canvas from Yvonne, I stared at it for ages. The palette, detail and shimmery layer just makes it magical. As her website says of her work ” The result is a kaleidoscopic jewel like composition of rich pigments that prismatically opens up to reveal the radiance and beauty of nature ” –  she says it much better than me. But, it’s so true.

Here’s a close up of the oils. So rich. It’s a lovely little burst of happiness in my design room. Very useful to look at while I’m thinking about design ideas. It will also remind me of the best holidays I’ve had in Cornwall and it’s where I discovered Yvonne’s work.

It’s against a pure white background which allows the hues to shine brightly. What do you think ?

I’m so happy to have found another artist who is full of expression and deeply in love with colour. If you would like to know more about Yvonne and see lots of her prints and canvasses in all of their forms and glory and check out her events  – you can here. She also has a wonderful instagram account to follow for regular bursts of inspiration.

What do you think of our new additions? I hope you like them as much as we do. Leave me a comment under this post and you can tweet me @lucylovesyablog too.
