My new Design and Create Room – Ta-da !

sewing room design

You may have noticed a lack of posts showing my makes recently, it’s been a transitional phase plus I have been doing alterations. Also, you might have heard me banging on and on about wanting a new design rom and then about it being on the way  – with the crescendo tweets of “I have a new space to design and create .. finally !” – So I thought I would share my new love with you.

It is so much easier now to do dressmaking, the kitchen table just wasn’t cutting it anymore. A family friend who’s a carpenter made the craft block to my specifications which is amazeballs – now I don’t have to keep bending right over to draw patterns and pin clothes.

design and create sewing machine

design room

To have a permanent place for my machines feels like such a luxury, I’ve put pictures up and things around that inspire me – like this Magical Bunny lamp from MiaFleur. It was my Birthday present from Andy.

My Sister painted this old dresser top for me. She used two colours and I believe it was an Annie Sloane blue, one as the main and a green just peeping through where she distressed it. I really love it. If you are looking to have something up cycled look no further than Clare. Email me if you want more details.

roman blind

I made these blinds with Nina Campbell fabric from Kingdom Interiors. Look out very soon for a Roman blind tutorial, here on my blog if you fancy making one.

Hope you like my room ! Do you have space where you can work ? Or is it in the pipeline, like this was for AGES !

It’s a 2nd floor apartment so not really an option, although the amount of junk we seem to collect, I’m sure it is going to end up as a ground floor apt very soon!! haha!! xx

            Haha! :)

Very Nice! I wish my house was big enough for a dedicated area. I have a pseudo dedicated area now, but it has many other purposes. When I babysit for my grandson, the small bed is set up, when it’s time for yoga, the mat goes down, when visitors come and stay, the inflatable mattress is set up. My machine goes in the corner and the supplies go in their respective bin until I am able to pull it all back out and set it back in place to carry on.

I hear ya! This was a dining room but I had to weigh up how much I needed the sewing space. Your room sounds wonderful – full of energy! :) x

I am positively green with envy. Still trying to find a suitable small table for the corner of my dining room for my “sewing space”. Good for you: it looks amazing.

Cheers Eleanor. It’s amazing how much you can fit into a space! I squeezed EVERYTHING to do with sewing into a tiny cupboard for ages. Good luck with it x

It looks so lovely Lucy. Did your friend imbed a ruler or yardstick into the craft block or do it in like 1cm squares on the top for ease of fabric measuring? Have fun and enjoy all the projects you undertake I am sure you do lovely work :)
PS we love you back :)

Hi Carol, thanks very much. I find it much easier to measure with my tape, so didn’t need an embedded ruler. Glad you like it! X

Simply fantastic! I’m super jealous! I’d love to hear your dimensions for your craft table. It’s so wonderful…as is everything else in the room.

That’s really kind of you to say, Jennifer. Really appreciate your lovely comments. It is 150cm x 110cm and the height is hip height (everyone’s perfect height will obviously be different) X

Wow that is so gorgeous, I am totally jealous as I am on the dining room table for the most part now!
Do you think you’ll be able to keep all your fabric all folded so nicely… thats what i find difficult.

Hi Vicky, Thanks very much. I doubt it very much – although will do my best as the glass windows give it all away! I hope you have a cupboard or summat to store all your bits… ? x

I love your room! Mine is getting an overhaul in the spring. You have inspired me! All you are missing is an ironing board that drops down from the wall! My dad made mine 30 years ago for my mum! I’m going to pinch some of your ideas if I may :))))
