I’m going to start this week off by putting on my dressmaking cap as I have a stretchy spandex based post for you.
I’ve never made anything with this material before and to be honest I was a bit uncertain as to what to make, as I had a feeling it was going to slip slide all over the place, like silk does. How wrong I was. It was a delight !
Funkifabrics sent me 3 metres worth of their spandex – I chose which ones I want to work with. Naturally – leopard print and tartan, but I also really like their star print, so opted for that too. The width of these fabrics are 145 cm so a metre for each pair was definitely going to be enough.
The quality of the spandex was the first thing that I checked and it’s really good. The print colour is also incredibly rich on colour which is important to us.
I used a pattern to make the leggings as I was a little short of time, and altered each one slightly as all of them had to be taken in at the waist ( several times ) and also on the inside legs. It took no time at all for the alterations and they also overlocked like a dream. The elastic for the waists went it well too. Stretch wise – we have worn them for a full day and they are just as fitted. I love them and am chomping at the bit to make some more.
They’re so comfortable, as we were having a relaxing day when we tried them out I wore mine with a t shirt dress and some Converse – and to add an extra bit of colour – my Tatty Devine bunting necklace.
Often I buy leggings from American Apparel as they do some brilliant ones but think I will make my own as much as possible from now on and will definitely be using Funkifabrics as they offer a huge range of cool prints.
The girls really like theirs too and think that they’re extra impressed to have some leggings that are unique to them. There was enough fabric left to make something else. A little skirt each maybe.
Funkifabrics design and print all of their materials in the UK. They are dedicated to providing stretch fabrics only – and are constantly coming up with new brightly coloured patterns with their in – hour graphic team who work alongside high profile fashion labels as well as keeping their loyal customers happy too.
I think their foil decorated prints are definitely worth checking out. A great selection.
Hope you like our new leggings. What kind of prints would you use for a sewing project ? Do leave me a comment or tweet me @lucylovesyablog …
I have received no payment for this post. I was sent 3 metres of fabric for the purpose of this review.
