Red Carpet Glamour Comes to Ipswich on October 4th

Film Premiere Ipswich Breathe Andy Serkis Clare Foy Film Festival
Sponsored post in association with American Express®

Coming from a film and theatrical background, I’m always interested to see how new films come to fruition and where the idea has come from. There’s usually a fascinating story behind it. So this post has been a pleasure to research, and I also have some exciting news for you – if like me, you love a good film and the glitz and glamour of the red carpet.

If you live in the Ipswich area, you’re a film fan and fancy something a little bit special, then I have some fabulous news – American Express and the BFI are bringing the 61st London Film Festival to the town next month.

Breathe Film British Film Festival Tickers

American Express has been proud sponsors of the BFI London Film Festival for the last 8 years, and this year, along with the BFI they’re bringing the Opening Night gala of the Festival to Ipswich.  Members of the public could experience one of the benefits of being an American Express Cardmember, which includes gaining access to some of the most talked about films during the Festival.

Across the country, regional cinemas will be screening not only a stream of the live red carpet, but also the much-anticipated European premiere of Andy Serkis’ feature directorial debut, Breathe. You’ll find more information about how you can register for tickets at the end of this post and more detail about all of the cinemas taking part.

Breathe Film American Express Andy Serkis Director Claire Foy

I’m so looking forward to watching it, let me tell you a little about the storyline of Breathe.

Written by twice Academy Award nominated writer William Nicholson, Breathe is a true story about an adventurous man, Robin Cavendish (played by Andrew Garfield ), who meets, falls in love with and swiftly marries a beautiful young lady called Diana Blacker (Golden Globe Winner Claire Foy). Together they move to Africa and enjoy an idyllic life with Diana becoming pregnant, but suddenly, Robin is struck down with Polio, leaving him paralysed from the neck down, and rushed to a hospital and  attached to a respirator that enables him to him breathe. He’s given the prognosis of a few months to live.

A few months on and with a new baby son in their lives, Robin has been moved to another hospital and is being taught to talk again, but has given up. Diana though is adamant that she wants Robin to survive for the family, so instead of letting the illness take control of their future, she manages to bring Robin home from hospital, and between them they amaze everyone with their tenacity and lust for life.

Robin’s good friend and Professor Teddy Hall (played by Hugh Bonneville) develops a homemade wheel chair for him with a battery-operated pump. It means he isn’t stuck in bed anymore and starts to have mobility again.

Breathe film American Express Sponsored British Film Festival 2017

They continue to fulfil lots of their dreams and travel to different countries, all of which gives Robin a new purpose – fighting for the rights of disabled people.

The supporting cast members list is stellar – including Hugh Bonneville, Tom Hollander, Stephen Mangan and Dame Diana Rigg. It’s like a who’s who of my favourite actors, reading through all the names. The production team are also hugely acclaimed.

Producer, Jonathan Cavendish, who is actually the real son of Robin and Diana, always felt his father’s life would make a compelling feature film, and when he told William Nicholson one day about his background, the whole film started to take shape. He also works alongside Andy Serkis (famous for playing Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and his recent role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens) with their own production company – The Imaginarium.

Breathe Film Clare Foy Andy Serkis British Film Festival

I’m excited because reading up on the synopsis of the film – it resonated with me, and I think it will with many, because it’s a tale of challenges that anyone could face and how one family dealt with it all in such an inspiring way. Also, the way that the film all came together really moved me, as it started out with no money invested but with cast and production crew all keen to tell this story – it became a reality. Cool huh ?

Ipswich Premiere Breathe Film Festival 2017

I’ll be attending my local cinema in Ipswich on the night of the 4th October, and I’m really looking forward to it. The film will be released across the UK and Ireland on 27th October.

Win a £100 Voucher to Spend on Gorgeous King & McGaw Artwork

Last week I showed you our newly updated bedroom and you may have spotted some of my prints on the walls ? They are from online art, print and poster store King & McGaw and the good news is that they are kindly offering one of my readers a £100 voucher to spend on some of their artwork. Will fill you in at the end of this post on how to enter the giveaway.

In the meantime here are some close ups of the pictures. Andy chose this canvas print which is by artist and founder of Bluebellgray Fi Douglas and it’s called ‘ Stornoway  named after a coastal town in North Scotland’. We can see so much in it every time we study it. It’s a very peaceful vision for the bedroom and helps me to relax while nodding off. I love the blues. It gives the flowers a very striking backdrop doesn’t it ?

The canvasses at King & McGaw and the prints come in different sizes and you can also choose to have them sent to you framed with lots of options there too.

There are a plethora of artists on the site ranging from contemporary to vintage to everything in between. It’s so good to see modern and museum masters sitting along side new photographers and well known artists. A real treat for the eyes.

It’s a well structured shop so you can find exactly what you’re looking for easily and then see what it looks like on a wall in your chosen frame and size using their clever graphics.

I’ve always wanted one of these Penguin Book prints. They’re classic. Have you ever owned any of the books ? Some of the titles when I was looking through really made me chuckle.

I kind of thought this particular one was quite apt. Plus the green works well with the blues in the room. Perfect size for our ‘ shelfie ‘ …

You may have noticed that we’ve kept the room quite light and airy ? A little bit of cheery pastel was needed too and I wanted it to be fun. By Croatian graphic designer Ana Zaja Petrak, it gives the corner of the room a nice lift.

If I could enter this giveaway I would as there are so many fabulous pieces to choose from. But it’s over to you now as here is how to enter. Super easy and it’s open to all UK and European residents. It will run for one week and I will notify the winner who will be picked at random by Rafflecopter within 24 hours of it ending.

If you want to follow King &McGaw anyway for updates without taking part in this giveaway then you find them on Twitter here or instagam here. :)

Giveaway – Win an Acapulco Chair from Oli & Grace

I always seem to disappear of the face of the earth when it comes to school holidays. Although I’ve been quiet on here – it was my Birthday last week and we had a great trip to see the David Hockney Exhibition at The Tate in London. Totally recommend it.

As you may know, I do love hosting a giveaway so am feeling pleased today that I have a really good one for you. If you look over on my instagram you will see that I have an Acapulco Chair from the fab shop Oli & Grace and they are, very generously, offering one of my readers their very own chair too. More on this at the end of the post where you can enter via Rafflecopter if you’d like to.

If Oli & Grace are a new find for you then let me tell you a little more about the team.

Already having had the experience of travelling the globe designing and manufacturing pieces for retail stores – they had a head start and wanted to use this experience to create some furniture for the home that wasn’t mass produced, good quality and not overly expensive.

So, Oli & Grace came up with classic designs made sturdy materials such as good solid wood and that is sustainable sourced ( good ! ) and stand up to the challenge of modern day living.

While the company and collections have grown –  they will stick to their initial promise of easy to assemble, quality homeware.

I do love the colourful, industrial style chairs here. It adds a splash of colour to the room. What do you think ?

As I have an Acapulco Rope Chair myself, I can tell you that they are supremely comfortable. It’s a clever design as the shape is reminiscent of the cool 70s but the legs are contemporary and it works really well in our home ( as you will see on my instagram ). We have all been fighting to have a go at sitting on it.

Being offered up by Oli & Grace  is the natural shade as you can see above. It’s easy to click the legs in and it’s not too heavy so can be moved around the house easily. The RRP is £120 so it’s clearly a good strong item.

It’s a nice simple Raffelcopter giveaway and there are several ways to enter. It takes only seconds to take part. So, if you do  – good luck.

Make sure you do leave a comment telling me whether you have followed on instagram or twitter or just left a comment etc though as this option is mandatory to be officially entered.

Some of the cushions come in different coloured piping so if you’re wanting to go black and white but with a splash of colour then no problem – and you can also get them in striped too.

What I also really like about Happy + Co is that they are extremely ethical and invest 10% off every purchase made in to their own farm, developed for the community in Siem Reap, Cambodia. it was developed by co – founder of Happy + Co; Gary Elton. Joseph Joseph Elevate Wood Carousel Giveaway

Joseph Joseph Giveaway

It has been quite a while since I offered up a giveaway here on my blog. I’m a big fan of kitchenware brand Joseph Joseph though and jumped at the chance to work with them and their innovative and contemporary designs and thought you might be up for winning a colourful Elevate Wood Carousel for your home.

But first, I want to show you a few other Joseph Joseph items that might tickle your fancy from my own kitchen because I am always fascinated by the ideas they come up with and how they combine it all with such style.

What I find with Joseph Joseph, is that the items are often multi functional and practical , saving space but also really well made. I’ve had some pieces for years and they still work just as well. Their brand always stands out in kitchen shops to me, with aesthetically satisfying designs in bold and beautiful shades along with their neutral colours.

They have some lovely new pastel coloured goodies arriving too in their store in the iconic designs. Good timing for Mother’s Day.

Joseph Joseph Bread Board

This double sided bread and cheese board is brilliant for sharing a little bread starter with oil or houmous and then flipping the wood board over to have some cheese and grapes at the end of the meal.

Joseph Joseph Items

It’s really handy and easy to tidy away. I can’t wait to use this when we next have friends over. I’m so in to chilli cheese at the moment so it will be used in front of the tv before then too !

Joseph Joseph Worktop Saver

The selection of glass worktop savers Joseph Joseph are pure joy to a colour lover. They’re so fun and really practical also because they are odour and stain resistant and perfect for putting a hot pan on. It would be very hard to pick a favourite but I obviously love this pastel palette one and also the record player worktop saver on the website.

Joseph Joseph Salad Bowl

Do you love this ‘ Hands On ‘ salad bowl with built in servers ? I just think it’s such a good idea but looks so cool too. The bowl itself is a good size and sits proudly amongst the other dishes on the dining table.

Joseph Joseph

I do find that the more I get in to cooking, the more products like these ones are important for an overall ‘ look ‘. I used to serve food up in whatever I could find in the cupboard but now I look forward to having friends here and making them feel special.

Joseph Joseph Carousel

Now, the giveaway. The Elevate Wood Carousel ! A set of 5 made from beech wood and heat resistant silicone, it has all the 5 utensils needed in any kitchen with a trusty stand that rotates making for an easy life and especially when you’re busy at the stove and need everything all at once ( or maybe that’s just my style of cooking ) … ;)

I can recommend it – tried and tested. It is £55 RRP usually and worth every penny. But, you can get yourself entered here on my Rafflecopter giveaway to win one for yourself free … courtesy of Joseph Joseph.

Make Mum’s Day with a BonBon Balloon – 20% discount for my readers …

BonBon Balloons have been on my radar for quite some time. I am such a big fan of this company. There’s something completely mesmerising about their perfectly round, beautifully coloured, confetti filled bonbon balloons. Their strings are all individually hand crafted.

We received the string of bows bonbon as a little gift this week and I’m not even exaggerating when I say that I was super excited to open the box. You can see my girls enjoying it over on my Instagram. Not sure I will get a look in.

Confetti Balloons

The bonbon floated out of the confetti decorated tissue paper and at the end of the string was a personalised note which was a lovely surprise. I felt really chuffed. :)

Giveaway – Ginger & Mora set of 6 icy coloured shot glasses – CLOSED.

Hello, how are you today ? I have been in Scotland for the last week on a little holiday and have some photo’s of Edinburgh and the Loch Ness to share with you in a few days…..

In the meantime – I have a very nice Ginger & Mora giveaway for you.

Ginger & Mora is an online store founded by sisters, Natasha and Vanessa who source beautiful, unique and hard to find accessories for your home and garden. They don’t over stock so you are guaranteed something rather special every time.

When they got in touch recently I was more than happy to collaborate with them to offer my lovely readers the chance to win one of their sets of 6 ” icy coloured shot glasses ” perfect for several uses. Obviously, they are perfect for shots but also, in Italy they are used as espresso glasses or used for desert wine because they are heat resistant and can hold 70 ml. A nice way too to add a splash of colour to your glassware collection – and a great talking point when you’re all sat around the table, I think.

You will find lots of contemporary, up – cycled and vintage pieces on the Ginger & Mora website – made mainly in Europe. Natasha and Vanessa travelled around a lot before they’d even entered their twenties, to countries such as Ecuador, Italy, Colombia and Ireland. Their family home was always full of an eclectic mix of objects from these places  – as a result, their love for decorating and design began. IMG_2488

They love to work with small producers and artisans, meeting with all their sources regularly. The largest of their producers has been around since the 15th Century. Now, that’s what I call vintage. :)

I recommend you have a look at the Ginger & Mora blog too – I have been enjoying their posts about vintage inspiration and some beautiful interiors of a building near Florence. Really interesting.

You can also follow them on Twitter @GingerandMora or become a fan on facebook.

Win 5 metres of Their Nibs fabric – and do you like my makings ?

I was extremely flattered when sought after Designer kids label Their Nibs of London dropped me a line to say that they love my blog. Their clothing and fabric prints are inspired by the 50s, 60s and 70s and what they do is  unique – so the feeling is pretty darn mutual. :)

They sent me over some of their hand designed fabric prints to work with on a couple of projects. How could you go wrong with the Toadstool fairy print ( above ) My daughter wore the dress today and we were stopped in the street by a lovely lady / complete stranger who said she thought it was beautiful ! I’ve never made pyjamas before, so thought I’d make some for my friends son …think he’s going to really like the pirates and cross bones.

I’ll tell you why I really enjoyed working with this Their Nibs fabric ( and then we’ll move onto the 5 metres giveaway !! :) ) ….

The fabric widths are 150 cm *rapturous applause* which seems rare nowadays but wholly a good thing in my opinion. This means you can get so much more out of each metre and make circle skirts etc with no faffing, front seams etc. The Cotton Poplin was very easy to manipulate with the pyjamas and they both press up lovely, like. I also think the prices are good. There endeth the lesson.

Win 5 metres of Their Nibs fabric – and you get to choose which print !

If you would like to enter this giveaway – you will need to do 2 things:

1. Go to the Their Nibs website HERE and pick out the fabric you would love to win – 7 to choose from ! NB: The Mermaid fabric is the only one currently not available. Then leave me a comment under this post telling me which one you have chosen.

2. Tweet or facebook this quote:

I’ve just entered the @lucylovesyablog giveaway to win 5 metres of beautiful @TheirNibs fabric. Enter here:

You must do both of these things to validate your entry. To be clear: the winner will receive 5 continuous metres of one fabric print.

NB: I will be in the Big Apple for a few days this week ( so very excited ) … but will publish your comments when I get near my laptop so don’t worry if it isn’t showing for a few hours – it will !

T’s and C’s

The winner will be picked at random on Monday 22nd April at 7pm.

One entry per person.

Prize not redeemable for cash and no alternative offered.
