Serenity, Sand and Surfing in Cornwall

Padstow Harbour

We’ve had a lovely, much needed family trip away to Cornwall. I conquered two ‘ fears ‘ in that time – one you will see in a minute and the other will be part of another post coming up.

Cornwall sends me in to a very relaxing, spiritual place. I think it’s the dramatic scenery and general laid back attitude there. How can you not feel horizontal when you’re surrounded by such beauty.

We did lots and I captured some of the colourful moments along the way. I can’t wait to also show you the next post as I found the time there very, very inspiring – and hope you will too.

Ribbons

As it was May Day in Padstow, the traditional Maypole was up in the centre with hundreds of bright ribbons floating above our heads. Local people were singing Cornish songs and the streets were filled with atmosphere.

Door

LavenderI love this fishing port with its pretty old seaside homes and always pop in when we are in the area. The bunting and garlands were an added bonus this time.
Seafood Restaurant

It must have been our 4th visit to The Seafood Restaurant owned by Rick Stein and this time it was the dessert that won the day. That passionfruit, sorbet, white chocolate mousse and marshmallow was unbelievable.

Beach Huts

Beach Huts CornwallWhenever there are beach huts within a stones throw, I’m there. These are on Tolcarne Beach in Newquay. I don’t know in what they were put there but they look very 50s ? I half expected someone to stroll out of one in a knitted swimsuit.

There are also surf huts to store all boards and prepare for ” catching some waves ” as Mae put it… which leads me on to what I was going to tell you about. I surfed for the first time. This might not sound so special but it was to me as I have a of a fear of going in the sea. Probably from watching Jaws when I was younger !

Surfing

Anyway, it was amazing. Mae took to it like a duck to water. As we were staying at The Bedruthan Hotel in Mawgan Porth ( highly recommend for anyone wanting a chilled, family stay ) we surfed with Nick their resident teacher – who was brilliant.

GraffitiRoos BeachIt was such a good holiday. I want to go back as soon as possible – not only because I spotted ‘ Gnome World ‘ on the way home – how did I miss that ? :)

Do you like visiting Cornwall ? Where are your favourite places ? I’d love to hear of more areas for next time. Please do leave me a comment. I’d love to hear from you.

You can also see more images from our stay on my instagram page.

Have a good day ..
